Description

Chinese Beef and Onion Stir Fry is a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender slices of beef and sweet caramelized onions tossed in a savory soy-based sauce.

Ingredients

  • 450 g beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, combine oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, water, and sugar. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or skillet over high heat.
  4. Add beef in a single layer and stir fry for 1–2 minutes until just browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. Add remaining oil to the wok.
  6. Stir fry onions until slightly softened but still crisp.
  7. Add garlic and ginger, cooking briefly until fragrant.
  8. Return beef to the wok and pour in prepared sauce.
  9. Stir fry for another 1–2 minutes until everything is well coated and cooked through.
  10. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly for tenderness.
  • Do not overcook to keep beef juicy.
  • Add bell peppers or scallions for extra color and flavor.
