Ingredients

  • 1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar


Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk and egg yolks until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbling.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate, butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Pour the chocolate filling into the prepared pie crust and smooth the top.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap touching the surface and chill for at least 4 hours.
  7. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Spread or pipe whipped cream over the chilled pie before serving.
