Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water or hot coffee
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Stir in the hot water or coffee until the batter is thin and well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting if desired.
Notes
- Hot coffee enhances the chocolate flavor without tasting like coffee.
- Do not overbake to keep cupcakes moist.
- Top with buttercream, chocolate ganache, or cream cheese frosting.
