Description

A homemade version of Taco Bell’s iconic Mexican pizza, featuring crispy tortillas layered with seasoned beef, refried beans, melted cheese, and tangy salsa, all baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 4 flour tortillas
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade seasoning)
  • 1/2 cup refried beans
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1/2 cup salsa (mild or hot)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional, for topping)
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional, for garnish)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat and stir in taco seasoning, adding a small amount of water as directed on the seasoning packet. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat a small amount of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Lightly fry each tortilla for 1–2 minutes per side until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet.
  4. Spread a thin layer of refried beans on each fried tortilla.
  5. Top with a layer of seasoned beef, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  6. Place a second tortilla on top of each pizza, then repeat with beans, beef, and cheese.
  7. Bake in the oven for 8–10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and top with salsa, sour cream, green onions, and diced tomatoes (optional).
  9. Slice into quarters and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add jalapeños or other toppings like lettuce or olives.
  • Use corn tortillas for a more traditional, crispy crust.
  • These are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
