Description

A hearty deep-dish savory pie packed with seasoned hamburger, sausage, and pepperoni layered with cheese in a rich, comforting baked casserole-style pie.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 lb (225 g) Italian sausage (halal), casings removed
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni (halal)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust or homemade crust


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a deep-dish pie pan.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add onion and garlic; sauté until softened.
  4. Add ground beef and sausage, cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and marinara sauce. Simmer 5 minutes.
  6. Press pie crust into the prepared dish.
  7. Layer half of the meat mixture into the crust.
  8. Add half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
  9. Layer pepperoni evenly over the cheese.
  10. Add remaining meat mixture and top with remaining cheese.
  11. In a bowl, whisk eggs and milk; pour evenly over the pie.
  12. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until set and golden.
  13. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Letting the pie rest helps it set for clean slices.
  • Serve with a simple green salad.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven.
