Description
A classic pepper steak made with tender strips of beef stir-fried with bell peppers in a savory, slightly sweet sauce, perfect served over rice.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 bell peppers (red and green), sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sugar
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss sliced beef with cornstarch and 1 tablespoon soy sauce.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add beef and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add garlic and ginger and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add sliced peppers and onion; stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender.
- Return beef to the pan.
- Stir in remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, and black pepper.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and coats the beef.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
Notes
- Slice beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Serve over steamed white or brown rice.
- Add chili flakes for a spicy kick.
