Description

Potato and Zucchini Gratin is a creamy, comforting baked dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes and zucchini layered with garlic, cream, and melted cheese. Golden and bubbly on top, it makes a perfect side dish for family dinners or holiday meals.


Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium zucchini, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing dish)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Arrange alternating layers of potato and zucchini slices in the dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  4. Pour cream mixture evenly over the vegetables.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese and Parmesan over the top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes until golden brown and tender.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

  • Slice vegetables evenly for consistent cooking.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for cream.
  • Add breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
