Description
Soft baked pretzel dogs wrapped in chewy pretzel dough and filled with melty cheese, finished with a golden crust and a sprinkle of coarse salt for the ultimate snack or party food.
Ingredients
- 1 package (8 count) beef hot dogs
- 8 slices cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse pretzel salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter; mix and knead until smooth.
- Cover dough and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Wrap each hot dog with a slice of cheese.
- Divide dough into 8 pieces and roll each into a rope.
- Wrap dough around each cheesy hot dog.
- Bring water and baking soda to a boil, then carefully dip each pretzel dog for 20–30 seconds.
- Place on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with pretzel salt.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until deep golden brown.
- Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
- Serve with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
- Use halal beef hot dogs if required.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
