Description

Soft baked pretzel dogs wrapped in chewy pretzel dough and filled with melty cheese, finished with a golden crust and a sprinkle of coarse salt for the ultimate snack or party food.


Ingredients

  • 1 package (8 count) beef hot dogs
  • 8 slices cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse pretzel salt


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter; mix and knead until smooth.
  3. Cover dough and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Wrap each hot dog with a slice of cheese.
  6. Divide dough into 8 pieces and roll each into a rope.
  7. Wrap dough around each cheesy hot dog.
  8. Bring water and baking soda to a boil, then carefully dip each pretzel dog for 20–30 seconds.
  9. Place on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with pretzel salt.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes until deep golden brown.
  11. Cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • Serve with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
  • Use halal beef hot dogs if required.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
