Description
A classic Italian comfort dish made with layers of tender lasagna noodles, rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and melted mozzarella cheese baked until bubbly and golden.
Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion until browned.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute.
- Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread a portion of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then add meat sauce and sprinkle mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and mozzarella on top.
- Sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Allowing the lasagna to rest helps the layers set and makes slicing easier.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
- Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
- Lasagna freezes well and can be reheated later.
