Description

A classic Italian comfort dish made with layers of tender lasagna noodles, rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and melted mozzarella cheese baked until bubbly and golden.

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion until browned.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  9. Spread a portion of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then add meat sauce and sprinkle mozzarella.
  10. Repeat the layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and mozzarella on top.
  11. Sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese over the top.
  12. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  13. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Allowing the lasagna to rest helps the layers set and makes slicing easier.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
  • Lasagna freezes well and can be reheated later.
