Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Whisk egg and water together in a separate bowl.
  3. Pat shrimp dry.
  4. Dip shrimp into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. In a bowl, combine cabbage, carrots, cilantro, and lime juice to make the slaw.
  9. In another bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, lime zest, and hot sauce to create the lime sauce.
  10. Warm the tortillas.
  11. Fill each tortilla with slaw, crispy shrimp, and a drizzle of lime sauce.
  12. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the oil while frying to keep the shrimp crispy.
  • Fresh lime juice provides the best flavor.
  • For a lighter version, air-fry or bake the shrimp.
  • Add sliced avocado or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately for maximum crispiness.
